Points to Ponder

This month’s newsletter recognizes the countless men and women who have served and who serve in our nation’s armed forces. Many of them have courageously fought to establish our independence; many of them are fighting today to protect and defend our freedoms; and many of them have paid or may pay the ultimate sacrifice – death.

The poem on the left was written by Ernie Smiling Hawk, and the various soldiers’ creeds on the next page show us just how seriously these folks take their jobs.

A soldier’s life is one of commitment; sacrifice; and honor. Whether or not we agree with the policies and decisions of our government, one thing’s for sure, we need to support the many brave men and women who are deployed abroad and at home.

Our soldiers are the willing servants of this great nation, and they persevere through the most unimaginable circumstances day in and day out. Because of them, we can pray and assemble in God’s name – in public or private. What would the world or this country be like without these willing fighting forces working on our behalf? Let’s pray that we will never have to know.

When you see a soldier, thank them for their service and shake their hand.  Before you go to bed at night and when you awake, say a prayer for them. And when their work is done, may the Master one day say to each and every one of them, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' Mathew 25:23 (NIV).
